Peppermint Patty Brownies

peppermint patty brownies
Ingredients:
9 Peppermint Patty miniatures (.6 oz each)
6 oz semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1/4 cup sugar
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 eggs

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. Spray with baking spray or grease and flour one 9 inch baking pan. In a saucepan, melt the butter, cocoa and chocolate together over low heat*. Stir occasionally, and when the chocolate is nearly melted, remove from heat. Whisk until smooth. Set aside. In a small bowl, stir together flour, salt, baking powder. In a separate bowl, beat together the brown sugar, sugar, eggs and vanilla until frothy. Slowly stream the chocolate mixture into the eggs and mix to combine. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients and mix until the batter is thick and glossy. Pour half into prepared pan. Top with peppermint patties, the top with remaining batter. Bake 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool completely before slicing and serving.

My thoughts:

pie

I am sure I am not the only one with some leftover candy from a pre-Halloween candy buying blitz. Two years ago I tried Dorie Greenspan's Brrrr-ownies recipe which called for chopped York Peppermint Patties. They were okay but I've had in the back of my mind ever since that I could probably make a version that I would enjoy more. I had a bunch of miniature patties left so I thought I'd finally give it a shot. Since I didn't have her recipe anymore and I didn't like it anyway, I started completely from scratch. I ended up with a slightly peppermintier, very chocolately, very decadent brownie. I love how the peppermint patty adds a bit of chew to the brownie.

These look yummy. I'll have to try and see how they compare to my usual peppermint brownie recipe where I crush and sprinkle leftover candy canes on the top while swapping out half of the vanilla with peppermint extract.

You know, I'm not a huge fan of peppermint patties, but I bet they would be really good in brownies like this. They look great!

Oh, I'm obsessed with peppermint patties. I made homemade ones last Christmas and they were out of control! :)

I'm sending this recipe onto my sister, who shares my patty love. Thanks!

Oh these look awesome... may have to try them out! I've made several of your recipes, and they've all been SMASH hits, so thank you :D

Have you done anything featuring Cornish Game Hens? I looked through your index but didn't see anything. I bet you'd come up with something great.

Keep it up! You're an inspiration :)

I saw this recipe, checked the Halloween supply and immediately made a batch. They are divine. I baked mine for 24 minutes, and I think next time I'll mix the cocoa in with the flour instead of the chocolate chips, but really a great, great success.

Hey Spill-glad you liked them. I originally I had put the cocoa in with the flour but it didn't work nearly as well-not as chocolate-y!

Everyone at home thinks I'm crazy to put mint and chocolate together, but I think they are a match born in heaven!

Especially once you bake peppermint, that beautiful aroma comes out and infuses the air with its peppery scent. Thanks for sharing this one :)

Very smart idea. Smarter than me -- I made a candy-topped dessert (chocolate pudding) 2 days BEFORE Halloween. What was I thinking? Next time I'll try delaying gratification. We have a ton of leftover candy.
