Instant Buttermilk

Out of buttermilk? Use 1 tablespoon white vinegar plus milk to equal 1 cup.

Here in Brasil either they don't sell or make buttermilk or I haven't discovered what it is called. Thanks for the tip. Now to make wonderful Buttermilk pancakes!

that's funny, in India, basic buttermilk means Yogurt+Water (1 part to 4) in the blender with a pinch of salt.

You can also use lemon instead of vinegar, tastes a bit lighter

buttermilk is the leftover produce from butter produktion if you do it the traditional way, ie making the butter from creamy yoghurt instead of cream.

The liquid left over from butter production is a different product completely from cultured buttermilk, and wouldn't work for pancakes.
